150 Kashmir University students awarded USAID scholarships

Around 150 students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir University (AJKU) in Muzaffarabad have got scholarships award from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Jock Conly and Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Chaudhry Abdul Majeed.

Jock Conly said on this occasion that the United States government is assisting Pakistan for the quality of basic education by providing well trained teachers. This scholarship program is additional manifestation of the U.S. government which is dedicated to support and form a stronger, more prosperous and Roshan Pakistan.

The Prime Minister of AJK Chaudhry Abdul Majeed showed gratitude to the people of the United States for supporting AJK people with scholarships.

The Azad Jammu & Kashmir scholarship program is part of a higher $75 million USAID Teacher Education Project. The USAID is working with the Government of Pakistan from a long time to progress and implement pioneering curricula for two newly introduced degree programs: a four-year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a two year Associate Degree in Education. As many as 1,900 students across Pakistan will receive scholarships under this project. Over 100 scholarships were awarded to students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir before.

Prof Dr Syed Faisal Ahmed Bukhari, Associate Professor, Department of Computer System Engineering, Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) has been nominated for the best university teacher award 2011 by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

According to the information, the main award committee of HEC had nominated Bukhari in a meeting organized in January 2013. The award is comprised of a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 100,000 which will be given him at an award ceremony.

To get this award the individual must have minimum five years of continuous services as a regular teacher in a recognized university and must have MS/MPhil degree from a HEC recognized university. He should not be more than 65 years of maximum age and that the nomination should be made through vice chancellor and selection committee.
