The inaugural ceremony of e-learning program was conducted with the support of Punjab Information Technology Board and Provincial Education Department at Arfa Kareem Software Technology Park. The chief guest over this occasion was Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and he said that e learning program will benefit not only the students of Punjab but also students of other parts of the country and considered it a revolutionary step towards the development of education sector.
On this occasion various political and educational personalities were there including Provincial Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board Omar Saif, Secretary Schools, Secretary Higher Education, Secretary Information, senior officials and a large number of teachers and students.
Thee-learning program was inaugurated by CM Punjab by pressing a computer button. While speaking on the occasion he said that billions of funds have been provided for the progress of education sector and promotion of IT sector. Among these revolutionary steps the e-learning program is a major step which had been initiated for the development of IT sector during the last tenure of government of the Punjab. To provide betters educational facilities the government has spent a useful investment for the development of the country. over 10, 000 laptops worth Rs 8 billion had been given to talented but needy students purely on merit basis. Moreover Punjab government will provide tablets to school students this year while laptops will also be distributed.
He further said that Internet facility had been provided in the educational institutions while IT labs were created in 4,500 high schools of the province worth Rs 5 billion in the previous era. He also revealed that Punjab government is planning to start e-library in the next phase. He said initially textbooks of science would be available online to the students of 9th and 10th classes while afterwards the scheme will be expanded to 5th, 8th and 12th classes as well.
Shahbaz Sharif said that Information Technology University had been established in IT Tower where over 300 students are getting education. A new campus of Information Technology University will be established soon. Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan and Chairman Information Technology Board Omer Saif also addressed the ceremony.
