Electricity shortfall in the country rises to 3,000 MW

Electricity shortfall in the country rises to 3,000 MW

LAHORE: The people are forced to bear longer duration of power outages as the demand-supply gap of electricity shoots up to 3,000 MW across the country.

According to National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), the urban areas of the country are facing 6-8 hours of loadshedding while its duration for the rural areas has hit 10-12 hours.

The total power generation of the country currently stands at 14,700 MW against the demand of 17,700, leading to a shortfall of 3,000 MW.

The private power houses are presently contributing 7,150 MW electricity to the national grid while the thermal sources are producing 1920 MW and hydel 5,630 MW of power.
