ABOUT THE EVENT
The session will feature two presentations on the theme of cross border co-operation and coordination in South Asia, from our distinguished guests, followed by a moderated discussion between the speakers and audience.
In addition to an in-depth discussion on the various ways in which these complex issues are affecting us and their various conceptions among policy makers, academics, activists and governments, this session will also focus on the work of non-governmental regional organisations such as SANDEE and ICIMOD.
The workshop includes researchers and observers from across Pakistan and a resource team comprising of some of the most distinguished trainers in the field from across South Asia.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
A. K. Enamul Haque is a Professor of Economics at the United International University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has been teaching environmental and resource economics since 1992. Dr Haque completed his PhD degree from the University of Guelph Canada in 1991 in the field of Environmental and Resource Economics. Besides teaching, Dr Haque has contributed to several high level committees in the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Bangladesh. He is now advising the Government of Bangladesh as a member of its Technical Committee on mitigation due to climate change. He is a life member of Bangladesh Economic Association.
Priya Shyamsundar is the Programme Director for the South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE). Priya previously served as a consultant for many years to the Environment Department of the World Bank. Most recently, she led a team that was responsible for a new World Bank book on poverty and environment. Prior to her work with SANDEE and the Bank, Priya served as Senior Programme Officer for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and as Research Associate at the Institute of Social Studies Trust. She has a Ph.D. in Environmental Economics from Duke University.
