The cylindrical bore is primarily responsible for the clarinet's distinctive timbre, which varies between its three main registers, known as the chalumeau, clarion, and altissmo. The tone quality can vary greatly with the musician, the music, the instrument, the mouthpiece, and the reed. The differences in instruments and geographical isolation of players in different countries led to the development, from the last part of the 18th century onwards, of several different schools of clarinet playing http://georgiabluephotography.com/books/die-meistersinger-von-nuernberg-wwv-96-act-iii-sc-5-choral-wach-auf-clarinet-1-part-qty-7. Remove the mouthpiece from the ligature and mouthpiece cap. Check to see if the cork is dry or slippery. If the cork feels dry, add a thin coating of cork grease to the cork. Palm the barrel and gently twist the mouthpiece onto the barrel. Slide the ligature onto the mouthpiece with the screws toward your right hand side. Loosen the screws on the ligature slightly and slip the flat side (table) of the reed between the mouthpiece and the ligature by wiggling the bark portion of the reed down behind the ligature http://teamguey.com/lib/symphony-in-d-minor-clarinet-1-part-qty-2-a-1447.
A few jazzers held out for the "Lady Face" Conns and the silver-necked Kings, but most guys went to Selmer and stayed there. "Cigar Cutter", "Selmer Super Saxes" and "Radio Improved" models differ only in subtle ways. True CG models have on the octave mechanism a unique one by two inch flat brass plate with a round hole that looks like the tool you'd clip off the end of a cigar with it , source: http://testing.theanimalprint.com/books/yamaha-band-student-a-band-method-bb-bass-clarinet-book-2. Learning how to play higher registers on woodwinds like a recorder is therefore rather simple, and it makes things easy for the instrument maker: The tone holes and their distances for the upper octave are precisely the same as for the lower octave. Now overblowing works on clarinets, too, but the effect is different: The clarinet overblows not to the eighth tone on the scale (an octave - which is exactly double the frequency) but to the twelfth tone http://macrohype.com/ebooks/per-questa-bella-mano-bass-clarinet-mozart-barnes. A key with a flat pad made it necessary to sand the surface around the key hole flat, and those tone holes were relatively small. The first major step which made the modern clarinet possible was the invention by instrument builder Iwan Müller who invented the "salt-spoon-key". In connection with the sunk in key hole the new key could close holes nearly perfectly. His design is the one we still use today , source: http://studentsofpakistan.com/library/a-new-tune-a-day-clarinet-book-1. Henri Selmer St Louis professional level Clarinet in the key of A.
