Regional News Correspondents required at Aidspan

Deadline: ongoing
Open to: individuals established in East Africa; Southern Africa; North Africa and the Middle East
Remuneration: salary to be negotiated

Aidspan is seeking regional Global Fund Observer correspondents for East Africa; Southern Africa; North Africa and the Middle East. These are contract positions, involving about 5–10 hours a week at the outset, perhaps more as time goes on.

Aidspan is an international non-governmental organisation based in Kenya whose mission is to reinforce the effectiveness of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Aidspan does so by serving as an independent watchdog of the Global Fund and of the implementers of its grants.

The Global Fund Observer is a newsletter and live feed that contains news, analysis and commentary articles written by Aidspan about the Global Fund and related issues. The articles appear in GFO Live as they are written. Many of the articles posted HERE in GFO Live will also appear in the next issue of GFO Newsletter. When GFO Live articles appear in GFO Newsletter, they are removed from GFO Live. All articles in GFO Live contain a comment feature where readers can comment on the article itself and on comments from other readers.

The main responsibility of the regional correspondent is to help Aidspan cover regional stories for GFO. They need people they can contact when they hear about a local or regional story, and who can find out the details and report them back to them (or even write the articles). They also want the regional correspondent to identify local stories.

The language requirements vary by region. However, all regional correspondents must be able to speak English reasonably well, sufficient to be able to communicate with Aidspan staff.

Persons interested in these positions should have a good knowledge of the Global Fund; should have good contacts in the region; should have a decent Internet connection; should be available to Aidspan on a regular basis; and should be able to meet deadlines.

Persons interested in this position should contact David Garmaise, GFO Editor, at If you are not interested yourself, but know people who might be interested, please pass this on to them.

Aidspan recently hired two regional correspondents: Lídice Lopez for Latin America, and Gennady Roshchupkin for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In addition, Aidspan is completing arrangements with individuals to cover South-East Asia and West and Central Africa.

For questions, contact David Garmaise at, and see the official announcement HERE.
