Government of Sri Lanka has started 100 scholarships for international students to continue the education at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The government is offering study abroad opportunities in the field of Medical & Dental Sciences and for this purpose interested students have to go through an HIV/AIDS test within a month after arrival.
The scholarships are available for the duration of whole course or session. Candidates are eligible if they got the citizenship of a country. Those who have dual citizenship are not eligible to apply. Candidates having good academic record and have taken outstanding marks considered equivalent to GCE examination of Sri Lanka can apply for Sri Lankan universities. Eligible candidates must attach the original letter taken from the respective board as evidence that their education is equivalent to GCE. A/L examination of University of London or equivalent education is mandatory to get the Bachelor’s degree. The age of candidate must not be more than 25 years till Oct 15, 2013.
To apply for a postgraduate program the candidate must have a first degree from a recognized university having excellent academic merit get the masters level degree and for PhD studies, a Master/MPhil degree is mandatory having first division in the respective subject. The candidate is eligible if they are less than 45 year of age till Oct 15, 2013.
A candidate must have good communication skills and must show some prof for efficiency in English language, like he/she must have minimum score of 525 on TOEFL or 6.0 on IELTS for undergraduate studies while for Masters or PhD, the required marks should be a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL or 6.5 on IELTS.
